The Hokey Pokey

Lately it feels like my life is a perpetual round of The Hokey Pokey.

You put your right foot in

You put your right foot out

You put your right foot in and you shake it all about

You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around

That’s what it’s all about

But it’s my thoughts, and emotions

Here in Mexico

Thinking about next year outside of Mexico

Back here living in Mexico and busy, busy, busy, moving from this thing to that to the next thing on my plate

Life has not slowed down for many weeks now

And I can feel my mind and body begging and pleading for just a little break.

Let me stay here or there.

Let me rest and just be present.

Stop the dance.

This isn’t what it is all about.

Remember when you told yourself to “be still and know.”

Remember when I told you.

Take heed and listen.

God is not in the busyness or the push and pull of my life.

Yes, He is present.

Yes, they are all “good” things.

But to know Him is to stop and listen.

To trust and wait.

Even in the midst of it all.

Even when the waiting is hard.

Even when there are more questions than answers.

Trust and wait.

Be still and know.

That’s what it’s all about.
