Dearest Baby Girl,
In about a month we will finally get to meet you. Your Dad, your brothers and I are incredibly excited about it. I admit that the first part of getting to meet us, the actual birth process, is going to be a bit of a rude awakening – for both you and I.
But after we get through that initial part, oh Baby Girl, you are going to be loved. And that is the biggest lesson I want you to learn over and over again for your entire life – you are loved and you are enough, simply because you were made in the image of God.
The world is going to try to tell you otherwise. It will tell you that you constantly need more or less of something; that your life will never be quite right unless something changes. But, Baby Girl, we have a God who is bigger than all that.
“For you have formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that we formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
Psalm 139:13-16 (ESV)
“You formed my inward parts”
“Knitted me together”
“Fearfully and wonderfully made”
“The days that were formed for me”
That’s you Baby Girl – beautifully made, carefully constructed, created for a purpose. I pray that you remember this and never let anyone, including yourself, tell you that you are anything less.
God knows you, he knew you long before your Dad or I will get to meet you. He loves you for who you are. You are enough for all this world will throw at you. He created you for this life and He is right there with you, ready and waiting, to help you through.
There will be struggles, there will be hard days, there will be mean people, there will be times when you want to give up, you will make some poor choices along the way, but through it all you are loved and you are enough. You were created, knitted together, as enough from the very beginning. The God who made you loves you deeply. I love you (despite all those kicks, jabs, middle of the night hiccups, and trampoline sessions on my bladder), but he is the one who already knows exactly who you will be and He loves you even more.
On the day that you officially enter this world and the doctor places you in my arms for the very first time, that is what I am going to tell – you are loved and you are enough. Expect to hear it over and over again – go ahead and prepare yourself now.
I love you,
